  1. Green hydrogen energy production: current status and potential

    Ali O M Maka, Mubbashar Mehmood · 2024 · Clean Energy · 157 citations

The technique of producing hydrogen by utilizing green and renewable energy sources is called green hydrogen production. Therefore, by implementing this technique, hydrogen will become a sustainable and clean energy source by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. The key benefit of producing green hydrogen by utilizing green energy is that no harmful pollutants or greenhouse gases are directly released throughout the process. Hence, to guarantee all of the environmental advantages, it is crucial to consider the entire hydrogen supply chain, involving storage, transportation and end users. Hydrogen is a promising clean energy source and targets plan path

  2. Techno-economic assessment of green hydrogen production via PEM electrolysis and integrated water treatment using hydropower energy

Ervin Dwi Saputro, Firman Bagja Juangsa · 2025 · Clean Energy · 15 citations

Hydrogen is an emerging renewable energy source that plays a crucial role in the transition toward reducing carbon emissions. Despite growing global demand, green hydrogen, produced via water electrolysis using renewable energy, accounts for only 0.1% of total hydrogen output. This study investigates green hydrogen production via proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis using both energy and feedwater sourced from the Musi Hydropower Plant in Indonesia. A 2 MW PEM electrolyzer system was modeled in Aspen Plus, while a water treatment system combining ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis was simulated using WAVE software to ensure water quality compliance standards for PEM electrolysis. 3. Green villages by Wind + Solar + Hydrogen

Kevin Kendall, Fellow of the Royal Society · 2024 · Clean Energy Science and Technology · 4 citations

This paper describes 5 steps on the move to cost-effective green villages, powered mainly by Solar, Wind and Hydrogen. In Britain, there are around 6000 villages comprising almost half the total population. These village dwellers wish to reduce their expensive energy bills, achievable by profitably going green with local Wind and Solar generation of electricity plus Hydrogen energy storage. The first step is to measure the total energy usage in the village. This defines the size of the required renewable private wire energy installations. The second step calculates savings on grid bills for electricity, natural gas and petroleum transport products, to ensure rapid payback for the renewables

  4. Transition metal dichalcogenides-based electrocatalysts for green hydrogen production via water electrolysis: Design principles and modulation strategies

Dai Zhang, Ying Guo · 2025 · Clean Energy Science and Technology · 2 citations

The development of renewable energy-powered water electrolysis technology serves as a crucial prerequisite for realizing the large-scale application of hydrogen economy. Currently, commercial catalysts for water electrolysis predominantly rely on platinum-group noble metals, whose scarcity and exorbitant costs significantly hinder practical implementation of hydrogen production through water splitting. As promising alternatives to noble metal catalysts, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted considerable research attention due to their high intrinsic catalytic activity and cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, the catalytic performance of TMDs still lags behind that of noble meta

  5. Production of Green Hydrogen: A sustainable Pathway toward Clean Energy

Baha Elzaki, Neida Abdallah Abdelgawi, Badraldeen Gaffar Sulfab · 2026 · Conclusions in Engineering

The production of green hydrogen is a promising sustainable pathway toward clean energy, offering a carbon-free alternative to conventional fuels. This study utilizes Aspen HYSYS simulation to analyze the mass and energy balance, entropy changes, and the effects of key process variables on the efficiency of hydrogen production via electrolysis. The simulation results demonstrate the impact of temperature on entropy, revealing that higher temperatures lead to increased entropy and energy losses. Additionally, the molar flow of reactants significantly influences reactor efficiency and hydrogen yield. The molar concentration of potassium hydroxide (KOH), used as an electrolyte, enhanced hydroge
